Jelly Wrestling 2010, Are You Ready? 25th September
O and P 2\9\10 21:00	Hey Guys and Gals, Its been all too long since a good old CUMC jelly wrestle, so Olly "Bazooka" Birrell and Penny "Chainsaw" Challans are throwing a good old Jelly Party! Its gonna be to epic proportions, as you would imagine, and blow the socks of all previous Jelly Wrestling get togethers! What we need from people is to throw there names into the ring for a wrestle, we already have a battle of the weak vs strong, with "Weak" and "Fat" Andy taking on Aled "Tanky" Davies. Spread the word, and prepare for the welcome back party of the year! Open to all CUMC members and friends, on the weekend so no excuses for any old boys and girls, and everyone should be back for freshers so no excuses! Entry only allowed to the party with a tube full of jelly for the pool!

Great Taff Tidy

We are doing an event this weekend from the 3rd to the 5th of September called the Great Taff Tidy. We are going into the river in canoes, waders and even one group with scuba gear. We also have people on banks pulling stuff out of the water. From Blackweir down to pretty much the Millennium stadium we have very steep banks which we cannot go down due to lack of harnesses and ropes. We have 18 separate events in Cardiff and were wondering if you would like to help by roping down the banks and help us litter pick. It is not very interesting, but it is high profile and this litter will spoil the rest of our hard work. Begging on behalf of Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team
Mountain Dad 15\7\10 15:25	Hi guys, I hope you’re all surviving back in the Diff without me and having a good summer so far. This is an unashamedly begging post for sponsorship – myself, Napoleon, Mike Dudley (ex president for those that don’t know him) and Alys (the one that held my ropes) are heading off to do the Oggie 8 Challenge on 7th August to raise money for Ogwen Mountain Rescue Team. The challenge is organised by the MRT and involves getting around the 8 3000ft peaks within the Ogwen Valley in a day as a team, hopefully avoiding last place! Basically, we all wanted to do something to raise cash for the team, myself especially after getting pulled off the hill by them back in January in what can only be described as a fantastic effort by a highly motivated and trained group of volunteers that carry out similar rescues on a daily basis in their spare time. I know you’re all students but anything you can donate will be very gratefully received by the MRT guys (and don’t forget to tick the gift aid box) – you never know when you might need them! Pre-Term Sunny Bolt Clipping

Me and Irish will be going, but would be nice to get a good crowd out. Mainly because I don’t think I could handle going on holiday with just Paul for a week. Possible dates are 4/5th – 11/12th or 11/12th – 18/19th. Will decide on dates based on who can go when! The fate of this CUMC Website
Fresher Jess 8\6\10 16:45	Right, I've got quite an important topic of discussion to spark regarding this website and I would like to canvas views from all of you who care and are important parts of CUMC. The hosting package is coming up for renewal for this website at the end of June and it's and opportunity to look at the role of this website, and whether it is worth it to renew it. As it stands we currently have this site - which at the moment only the bulletin board seems to be being used, it is however very actively used. We also have the facebook page which most members have joined. Along with these we have a new website through the union system, campus groups. Now this site is going to become more and more integrated into the running of the club as the union switch over to being far more electronic. The new campus groups website is full of features; we'll be able to re-start a quotes page, the caption competition, trip reports etc. It also has a message board facility. The down side to it is that though the website is externally accessible, the message board on it can't be used by people who aren't part of campus groups i.e. you have to have a cardiff.ac.uk email address. This would therefore loose the old boy input into bulletins which I really don't want to do as you guys are a brilliant source of banter, advice and experience. To keep the CUMC site up would cost £35 and essential this is £35 that won't necessarily benefit paying club member as they have the campus group website bulletin board. So I'd like to canvas what people think and any suggestions you have, should we keep this site just for this one page at £35? how should it be paid for - can we as the club justify the expenditure to our members? how much do people use the bulletin board/facebook? would facebook provide a suitable alternative for new and old member debates with campus groups available for uni members (non-campus groups member can still view the bulletin board on it just not post)? are there any other better alternative being over-looked? Crag cleanup and BMC bolt workshop at Cwmamman Saturday!

Beach Party Extraordinaire!
Fresher Jess 8\6\10 17:02	We had a beach party sign-up last night and I just thought I'd put it up on here to for anyone who wasn't there or is making their own way there so they know plan A and plan B! The beach party is THIS saturday! The weather looks promising so hopefully plan A will be a go-er! we will be leaving the back of the union in flotilla of a minibus and cars at 10am to head to Oxwich Bay on the Gower for an afternoon of sandcastles, cricket, sea swimming and other beachy frolicks. Climbing isn't prohibitted so if you want to climb you can but generally we have a climbing free day of beach-cumc-fun-and-games. We will then bbq/eat sandy-sandwichs and hopefully sit round a raging fire, fight off the encroaching sea before biviing on the beach under the stars and returning to Cardiff on Sunday morning. Therefore food, WATER, sea attire, sleeping bags, roll mats and some warm layers incase of nippiness are required! If we wake on Saturday to pants weather then Plan B will roll into action. We'l phone everyone to let them know if this is the case. Plan B is to all voyage down to the big International Swimming Pool down in the bay and splish and splash in the pool and down all the slides and various fumes for a few hours. Then drag ourselves back, bbq and have a farewell party at my presidential palace! There are still spaces to come for those of you who've missed out thus far, post up or let me or Hazel know!

The Great End of Year Gear Give Back
Fresher Jess 6\6\10 17:53	Hello folks, as this year is coming to an end, wrapping up with exciting ventures like the road trip going off in a week, I would be ever-so ever-so very grateful if ANYONE with ANY amount of club gear could please return it this week. Ropes, Helmets, Harnesses, Slings, Compasses, Nut, Ice axes (you know who you are who's got these!), Quickdraws, More Ropes, Belay Plates, anything that's CUMCs! There are a number of ways to do this: 1) bring it to the pub on monday night 2) Talk to us on Monday about when the best time to give it back will be 3) give me a ring/text (07753638802) and we can arrange to meet/give back at the kit store at some time or...4) and this is the amount I'd like some of it back, I'll come and get it off some of you if needs be!!! As an incentive anyone who returns gear will be rewarded with christley-baked cake and biscuits at the beach party (those's who are good and don't have any gear to return can enjoy cake and biscuits too!) I know who some of you are so if needs be I will name and shame shortly!

Climbing next week

Rob's leaving, anyone want his room?

He promises to come down to see us when work brings him this way, so I propose a local campaign to anger the local landowners by spray painting climbing logos on sheep. Anyway he's likely to be moving out at the end of June so if anyone is interested in his room give me a shout. It's 3250pcm x
